La Roux - In For The Kill (Skream Remix)

My boss talks about work all the time, he'd talk 24/7 if he could. He only reads business books and only listens to business on the radio. Don't get me wrong it's not a bad thing, his enthusiasm is great and sure makes the days flyby. It turns out he did use to have a life outside of work (he's only a few years older than me) and he liked his dance music. In fact every now and then the radio gets switched over to a music radio channel and he absorbs whatever's on.

He told me about this remix, I was not impressed and when it got to the end on YouTube I went straight to turn it off, only it hadn't finished, it was just a pause in the song. My boss then told me how La Roux had sorted this mix out especially for a gig in New York and this was to be last track played before the DJ came on. As it reached the pause before it kicked in again the DJ thought that was his cue and came straight in, the mix went to waste...

Anyway I thought you might want to witness the one and only time Dubstep makes it on to What's Wrong With The Mainstream. Well there aren't any plans for more.

La Roux / Heaven 17

Imagine being asked what your main influences on your music taste are and then someone saying 'hey, we can organise for you to have a sing song with them!' Elly La Roux is a massive fan of Heaven 17 and as it turns out from the 6music production broadcast tonight, Heaven 17 are great fans of La Roux. These two things make the collaboration a genuine one, with both groups having an interest and respect for one another's music. Have a listen and enjoy!

Mini Album Review Week - La Roux

I've been a bit slack on reviewing albums I have accumilated over the last few(several) months so I thought I'd spend this week playing catch up, starting with La Roux.

I first wrote about La Roux in January and posted Fascination. Since then she's had massive hits in the UK with In For The Kill and my favourite Bulletproof. When I say 'she' La Roux is actually a pop duo but you only ever seem to see Elly Jackson in the limelight. The album's good but not especially my cup of tea. If you like Fascination and Quicksand, both available from their web site, as well as the two hit singles then you'll like the album. For me it's a bit slow at times and is all ready to be remixed, maybe that's why there are so many remixes on Hype Machine.
